Bicantina no longer collects water at an unprotected spring

Bicantina of Te- Akang 50 years old of Te- Akang pumping their new well
Dear Alice and Brad, Bill and Colleen, Kelly, Sterling and Melinda, Molly, and Julian,

While pumping the well drilled by Divine Waters Uganda, Bicantina said she used to walk for a long distance in search of clean water for drinking. Often, the source she relied on was an unprotected spring. It was dirty with cow dung and pigs also used the same water source for cooling their bodies.

She went on to say that life has become joyful for them because of the clean well drilled in her village. It is the first well of its kind in the village of Te-akang, in northern Uganda.

Your generous donations helped provide this well and clean water for Bicantina and 9 others in her village!

Stephen and his community now have safe drinking water

Stephen_Photo
Dear Jill, Wendy, Wendy, Mindy, Tom, James, and Lisa,

Stephen lives in the Awei sub-country of Uganda and feels very blessed to have received your help. He says his community has a dam with a fish pond where all the animals of the village drink. This is the same water source Stephen and his family have been using, because the other place to get water is nearly 2 miles away. This other water source can have a very long line, especially during dry season, where people sometimes have to wait 4 hours to get just 5 gallons of water. Thus Stephen would most often use the dam water, which he recently learned from the Divine Water Uganda training is likely the cause of his stomach and diarrhea problems.

When the well is drilled, Stephen says he will never drink water from the fish pond again. Thank you all so much for bringing access to clean water to Stephen and his community. They very much appreciate your support!

Lucky keeps the new water source tidy

Apio Lucky pumping water
Dear Max,

Lucky is a young girl of eleven years of age, a pupil in fourth grade at Arwot Primary school in northern Uganda. At school she says she likes Science, Mathematics and English. One of the things she is taught in school is how to clean all the household utensils and sweep the compound. She also enjoys keeping the area around the new water source tidy. She used to do this with the old water source, but it was difficult as it was so far away. This present source has given her the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge she got from school.

Thank you Max for providing a convenient water source for Lucky and nine others in Uganda!

A well that answered years of prayers

Caroline Abaca Pumping the well
Dear Brandon,

Caroline is 31 years old and she and her husband Robert have six children. Thanks to your support, Divine Waters Uganda was able to drill a well for her village of Alam, located in northern Uganda. This was an answer to many years of prayer by the community members.

In the past, members of this community had to travel long distances to collect unsafe water to drink. This new water source is located very close to Caroline’s home, which saves her time she once spent collecting water. Caroline is pictured collecting water at the new source!

Thank you Brandon for your very generous support of Caroline and her large family!

Susan no longer drinks unsafe water!

Akello Susan Fetching her water
Dear Alice and Brad, Mark and Lisbet, Bill and Colleen, Sterling and Melinda, Ted and Pam, Sarah, Ray and Lael, Rao, Rajeev, and Mark and Lynn,

Susan is 24 years old and she and her husband Lawrence have four children. They live together in the village of Alam in northern Uganda. Susan reports, “We used to wait so long at our old water source that if you left a visitor at home the visitor may think you ran away! The path to the former source was muddy during the rainy season, the source had many red worms, and the water would turn red when left unused overnight.”

“But now, we tell these as old stories. I can now rest or do something else at the time I should have been waiting at the water source; and when I need water I just walk over to the new source and take very little time.”

She said that she also attended the training that was conducted for the new source. One of the many things they learned was the importance of cleaning the water containers, and she now does this frequently.

Thank you all for providing water for Susan and her family!

Akello Dorcus Fetching her water
Dear Chris, Pooja, and glen,

Nineteen year old Dorcus left school during her sophomore year due to the inability of her widow mother to pay her school fees. She and her six siblings live together in the village of Alam in northern Uganda.

Dorcus is very happy to have a new water source in her village, which she uses for washing clothes. She reports that in the past it was very hard to collect a sufficient quantity of water for regularly washing clothes and the water didn’t wash clean white clothes. Today, there is plenty of clean water that one can use anytime to wash, even very white clothes.

Thank you all for your generous support, which provides clean water for ten people in this village. Special thinks to Glen, who provided water for 8 people!

Margret and her family have access to clean water!

Acen Margret pumping her water
Dear Elizabeth,

Margret is 42 years old and is married with one child. She and her family live in the village of Alam, in Northern Uganda. She reports that life is better now because of the borehole. Because the water is good, it serves a very large population. The former source, a lake, has been completely abandoned.

The borehole well that you helped build serves close to 200 families. Divine Waters Uganda ensures that the source is always staffed with a caretaker from the community to ensure that there are no problems for families that come to fetch water.

Margret also reported that in the past, it was difficult to properly clean the utensils used at home due to shortage of water. Now, with the abundance of clean water, cleaning is no longer a problem.

Thank you Elizabeth for your generous support, which has provided water for 10 people in this community!

Akello Grace washing at home
Dear Mike, David, Johanna, Alice and Brad, Dennis, Tom, Bill and Colleen, Sterling and Melinda, and Jeremy,

Thanks to your support, Divine Waters Uganda built a borehole well in Grace’s village of Alam in Northern Uganda, which provides her community with clean water.

Grace and her husband Alex support four children. She said, “We trust that we shall be healthier because of the clean water given to us. In the past, a child wouldn’t go three days without complaining of stomach pain and at night children would be crying on their knees, unable to lie down. But now, it is all gone. Even washing clothes is no longer a problem.”

Grace now even has enough water for her cow to drink. In her own words, “When I am drinking clean water my cow should also.” To her that has helped the cow to be healthy.

Thank you all for your generous support of Grace and Divine Waters Uganda!

Oluma is baking bricks to sell at the market!

Oluma Martin pumping well.
Dear Scott, Jens, Kristin & Craig, Sophia and Larry, Laurent, and Lynda E.,

Oluma is 39 years old and is the vice-chairperson of the water source. He is married and has nine children. Oluma uses the new water source you helped provide to make bricks that he bakes in the sun. Over 20 families in the community are now making bricks using water that is fetched from the same water source.

So far, Oluma has made two thousand bricks, but his goal is ten thousand. He would like to build a better home for his family, and is planning to sell some of the bricks at the local market so that he can buy cement and other materials that are not produced locally. Each brick sells for eighty Uganda shillings (about 3 cents).

He also hopes to use some of the income from selling bricks to support the education of his children! Thank you all for your generous support of Oluma’s new well!
