About us
Divine Waters Uganda (DWU) is a nonprofit organization working in Northern Uganda to provide access to clean water.
DWU is formed by a practical team of community organizers, technicians, philanthropists, researchers, and systems practitioners who are developing sets of integrated tools to help people living in extreme poverty create strong, sustainable, economically-thriving communities.
Approach
DWU seeks to transform communities from poverty using the WASH approach – Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. This comprehensive solution involves installing wells, constructing latrines, repairing hand pumps and providing biosand water filters.
DWU always uses appropriate technologies so that each community can be trained to maintain them. By emphasizing full participation of the community, communities can take ownership of new technologies.
Impact
In July-September 2010, 13,094 men, women, and children in northern Uganda gained access to safe water. In addition 60 hygiene trainers received ongoing training and mentoring. A total of 33 communities gained new water sources: 21 through new boreholes and 12 through repaired hand pumps.
Cost
Lifewater International provides clean water to villages in Uganda by constructing wells, the cost of which is $5000. For each donation of $250, you will receive a photo and story of a family who has been given access to a borehole well.
